Screening of the Road Capacity across the Little Belt

As part of the strategic analyses COWI has completed an analysis of the future traffic challenges and possible line routings for a new fixed link at the Little Belt.

As part of the green transport policy agreement from 2009, it has been decided to conduct strategic analyses concerning the long-term layout of the road and railway traffic capacity between Eastern and Western Denmark

In the analyses the following three different strategies for developing the regional connections in the long term are assessed:

  • A third fixed link across the Little Belt
  • A fixed link located north of the Little Belt between Bogense and Juelsminde
  • A Kattegat fixed link directly between Zealand and Jutland

In this context, the Ministry of Transport has requested COWI to conduct a screening of the future traffic challenges and possible alignments for a new road by the Little Belt. Four fundamental options for a new connection are highlighted in the analysis.

The purpose of the screening is to give an introductory picture of traffic challenges and development possibilities for the road capacity by the Little Belt.

The screening does not form an actual basis for decision-making. It forms the basis for debate about the possibilities and the direction for further analytical work
