Transport coordination

The Public Transport Authority forms the basis of the government’s decisions concerning railway transport and its connection to other transport modes by virtue of its role as advisor to the Ministry of Transport.

The overall aim is to ensure that all investments secure mobility and generate the greatest possible value for society.

Purpose

The purpose of the general planning of the development of the railway is to:

- Analyse the demand
- Ensure appropriate distribution of the railway capacity between transport of passenger and goods.
- Examine the basis of purchasing passenger transport.
- Develop the framework provisions for the conveyance of goods.
- Enable coordination between the railway and other
transport
modes.

That is, the Public Transport Authority is involved in planning, coordination
and
regulation of public transport.

The regulation is carried out in close collaboration with partners within the
railway sector, that is, operators, regional transport authorities and the Governments’ railway enterprise, Rail Net Denmark (Banedanmark).

Analyses
The Public Transport Authority compiles the following analyses of traffic services:
- National traffic plan
- Strategies for conveyance of goods

Other tasks
The Public Transport Authority regulates fares and monitors that fares for public transport do not
exceed
the level defined by the fare cap. The National Rail Authority administrates the revenue allocation between trains, busses and metro for the fare system covering the Greater Copenhagen Region.

Furthermore, the Public Transport Authority gathers and publishes relevant data and statistics about public transport.
