The Northwest Line

The Public Transport Authority performs the preliminary assessments of the possibilities of improving the section between Roskilde and Holbæk.

The project aims to produce the following benefits to passengers:

- shorter journey time

- improved punctuality

- higher train frequency

- improved timetable

Today, the capacity on the section runs at maximum, and the result is bottlenecks and congestion. The most urgent need for capacity improvement is found between Lejre and Vipperød, where trains travelling in opposite directions on the single tracks can only pass each other at the stations.

Status
The public hearing has now been completed, and the Public Transport Authority has published the final environmental impact assessment report, which proposes the two following solutions:

1) A full extension with a new second track along the entire section
2) A partial extension with a new second track along the section between Lejre and Hvalsø.

The Ministry of Transport has received the final report, and it is now a political decision whether or not the project is to be realised.
