On 3 September 2008, Denmark and Germany signed the state treaty on the construction of a fixed link across the Fehmarnbelt. The Transport Minister appointed Femern A/S to plan and design the fixed link across the Fehmarn-belt.

Femern A/S has prepared an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the coast-to-coast link across the Fehmarnbelt. The EIA report is ready to be submitted for public consultation in Denmark and the Baltic Sea States.

In Denmark, the public consultation for the EIA report will be carried out by the Ministry of Transport. The consultation launches on Friday 28 June 2013 and will continue until Friday 20 September 2013.

On Thursday 29 August 2013 from 17.00 to 20.00, there will be a public meeting held in Danish at Lalandia in Rødby where interested parties can learn about the project and the EIA report, and receive answers to their questions.

Transport Minister, Henrik Dam Kristensen, says:

    - I’m very pleased that the EIA report for a fixed link across the Fehmarnbelt is now ready to be submitted for public consultation.

    - This is an important milestone in our efforts to realise the fixed link across the Fehmarnbelt.

    - Femern A/S has carried out a comprehensive piece of work and I look forward to the public now having the opportunity to gain an insight and offer their views.
